Sports Motivation Clinic
The Mental Edge In Competitive Sports
Team Sport Workshops
If you have a whole team that needs help, I can help.
I'm Paul S. Palmer, director, Sports Motivation
Clinic. Working with
all the athletes that compete on the same team helps everyone. Usually,
I'm working with that "special" athlete. She gets better but the rest of
the team is still erratic. If nothing else, it's no fun. Helping each
athlete play at the top of their game is what's called a real "dream
team". A team workshop in the Chicago Area starts a $500.oo
plus $15.00 per athlete and each athlete
gets their own CD. That's a "dream" price!
Most of my team seminars are geared for high school and college
athletes. I teach them mental conditioning techniques, how and why they
work and the best way to implement them. I don't teach the sport and I
don't teach hypnosis. The relaxation exercises are derived from my 30
plus years of using clinical hypnosis in my practice. Relaxation has
always been at the heart of mentally preparing the athlete for
competition and I know the secrets of how to maximize that process.
Grammar school age athletes are better worked with one on one. Or
even better, I work with the coaches and
teach them the mental conditioning techniques that they can pass on in
small increments as part of their regular coaching sessions. It's never
too early to start to learn how to keep your head in the game, but a
hour and a half seminar on the subject usually isn't the way to start.
I also work with adult teams.
If you want your softball team to really kick butt, here is how to
achieve it. Yes, even old guys can learn how to improve their mental
game. I've proved that with golfers for years, but they tend to be more hard headed
than the kids. If you are an old dog that wants to learn a new trick,
call me. I'll make you more consistent and better team players because
you'll learn to play at the top of your game and take advantage of your
experience.
My seminars are limited to 30 athletes. It's a workable number and
this seems to accommodate most teams. For larger teams (football), we
need to break the team up into smaller groups.
Team sport presents a different type of mental challenge.
Playing as a team, team chemistry, jelling together are but a few of
the terms to describe what happens when a group of individual players
come together as one. It's the goal of any team. I'm sure you work on that team unity thing every time you
get together. Should your mental exercises include this sort of
thing ? Of course, yes.
Helping each athlete prepare to play their personal best is the usual
first step in mental preparation. But there are unique team intangibles
that can be worked on too. Here's one example.
Are your players psychic?
Position awareness: That six sense of knowing where your teammates
are on the field or the court.
Many top athletes seem to have an
awareness of the game that goes beyond what their eyes and ears take in.
They seem to be able to anticipate a situation before it happens. Are
they psychic? If they are I'd take advantage of it and play the
horses. More likely, it's
the subconscious recognizing patterns and making connections far quicker
than the conscious mind can keep up. It's another example of how the
automatic part of the mind plays your game better and faster than your
conscious mind. Again, the question is, which part of the mind do you
want working for you at crunch time? Mr. Palmer knows the secret of how
to get the subconscious onboard, when it counts.
The cost for a 1 1/2 hour team seminar, in the Chicago Area starts at
$500.00 plus $15.00
per athlete up to 30 athletes and includes a practice
CD for each
athlete. I also need a interview with the coach a week before the
workshop to help customize the workshop to fit your
team.
October Special: Book a team workshop before October 31, 2008 and
take $100.00 off. Call today.
I also offer a coaches workshop. See
coaches for more info.
